AI and the Future of Work: A Collective Reflection on AI Integration

On January 27, 2025, the Human Technology Foundation presented its report "AI and the Future of Work – Challenges and Recommendations for a Responsible and Efficient Use of Artificial Intelligence" during a dedicated event in the heart of Paris, bringing together experts, decision-makers, and partners.

This gathering provided an opportunity to examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the professional world and identify best practices for an ethical and effective adoption. The event featured a roundtable discussion, moderated by Éric Salobir, President of the Executive Committee of the Human Technology Foundation, with four key industry leaders sharing their insights on AI’s role in the workplace.

AI: A Strategic Challenge for Organizations

The roundtable began with Sana de Courcelles, Director and Senior Advisor for Special Initiatives at the International Labour Organization, who emphasized AI’s dual role as a strategic tool and a political and societal issue.

She highlighted how the technological choices made by companies reflect their core values and directly shape organizational models. She also warned about the risks of exclusion caused by automation, particularly for women, who face a higher likelihood of job displacement.

"The impact of AI on employment is not neutral: 11% of jobs held by women could disappear, compared to 9% for men."

Challenges of AI Deployment in Companies

Vinciane Beauchene, Associate Director at Boston Consulting Group (BCG), identified three key challenges companies face when integrating AI into their operations:

A technology-first approach – Organizations often focus solely on technical implementation without rethinking workflows or supporting employees in adopting new tools.

A narrow view of productivity – When AI is seen only as a cost-cutting tool, it triggers resistance and slows acceptance.

Lack of integration with broader transformations – AI should not be viewed in isolation but as part of a larger strategy to improve work quality, customer experience, and working conditions.

"The true value of AI will not come from a single solution but from the ability to combine different approaches."

A Responsible Framework for AI Adoption

The discussion also highlighted best practices in AI governance, as shared by Amélie Watelet, Chief Human Resources Officer at AXA France.

She presented AXA’s structured approach, aligned with company values, featuring clear governance and employee training programs.

"Ethical AI means pragmatic governance without compromise. Humans remain at the center—their ability to judge, innovate, and implement is paramount."

The successful adoption of ChatGPT by 65% of AXA’s 25,000 employees demonstrates the effectiveness of this gradual, well-supported integration strategy.

AI for Employees and Workplace Safety

Amelia Irion, Chief Human Resources Officer at Air Liquide, presented initiatives to integrate AI for employee support, including Gemini licenses for 66,000 employees across offices and production sites.

She highlighted AI’s role in improving medical equipment monitoring and workplace safety:

"With AI, we can track the usage of oxygen devices for home-care patients. These insights help train our teams, improve healthcare, and optimize hospital resources."

In industrial sites, AI is also leveraged to enhance worker safety:

"AI allows us to deeply analyze ‘near misses’ (almost accidents) reported by our employees, helping us identify trends and prevent incidents."

A Vision for the Future

This report is part of a broader initiative to establish a global dialogue on the responsible integration of AI in the workplace. It also contributes to preparations for the AI Action Summit, scheduled for February 10-11, 2025, in Paris, aiming to mobilize international efforts for ethical and inclusive AI adoption.

A warm thank you to all experts, contributors, and partners who participated in this event.
